Abstract:
b]Reconstructing the Self - The aim of this dissertation is the comparative study of four books by the Portuguese author Ana Teresa Pereira. Born in Madeira Island in 1958, she started publishing in 1998 and became one of the most preeminent and awarded voices in Portuguese contemporary fiction. The corpus is composed by the following books: Matar a Imagem (To kill the Image, her first mystery novel, 1998), A Cidade Fantasma (Ghost City, 1990), As Personagens (Characters, 1990), and A Coisa que Eu Sou (The thing that I am, 1997). Each one is a piece of the puzzle that constitutes A.T.P. works, as plots, characters and scenarios travel from one text into the other, remaking themselves into new narratives.
