National award for AI graduation projectsCelebrating 50 years of Artificial Intelligence, the Portuguese association for Artificial Intelligence - APPIA - created in 2006 the National Award for Artificial Intelligence graduation projects - TleIA 2006 - having the purpose of distinguishing projects of merit of 3 to 5 year undergraduate courses.

Twelve submissions were accepted, under strict anonymity, evaluated by a national jury of 19 PhDs. The latter awarded the TLeIA prize to Gonçalo Cardoso Lopes, from DI/FCT/UNL and a member of CENTRIA, which submitted "Uma Abordagem Computacional à Consciência Introspectiva usando Programação em Lógica - Projecto ACORDA" (A computational approach to the introspective consistency, using logic programming - ACORDA project), a final project 5-year undergraduate course supervised by the Professor Luís Moniz Pereira, who gave it the top mark.

This graduation project was the source of a publication: Gonçalo Lopes, L. M. Pereira, Prospective Programming with ACORDA, at the workshop Empirically Successful Computerized Reasoning (ESCoR'06), Seattle, USA, August 21, 2006.
