AbstractThis presentation depicts the problems faced concerning the use of time modalities in the making of interactive digital narratives for the Instory project (http://img.di.fct.unl.pt/InStory/).The project had the goal of defining and implementing a platform for mobile and cinematic storytelling, information access, and gaming activities, using a PDA, in «Quinta da Regaleira» (World Heritage) in Sintra, Portugal. The system is driven and validated by a set of story threads that are centred on the exploration of physical spaces (the real world, in real time). The plot development was naturally constrained by that very same environment, affecting some literary tools – as the relation between story and discourse - in this particular case, analepsis/flashback and prolepsis/flash-forward. This literary ruse cannot be supported by narratives of this kind.
