Visualização e Análise de Vórtices de Água em Mapas Térmicos da Superfície Oceânica

This study focuses in the visualization and analyses of eddies on SST maps of the Atlantic Ocean sent via satellite. Raster visualization techniques have been applied to temperature maps. Several experiments have been conducted involving 32 maps. This study allowed the understanding of these maps and the identification of the characteristics for the classification of eddies and not eddies. Afterwards these characteristics were used as entries for the training of neural net classifiers. The results were analysed and compared to the data. The aim of this study consists in ascertaining the best techniques to be used in the visualization process of SST maps and to know which filters, window size and type of mask and neural nets should be used in the automatic detection of eddies on SST maps obtained via satellite.
