Member summary

InformationCarlos Viegas Damásio is since September 2007 Associate Professor in Departamento de Informática da Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Department of Computer Science of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the New University of Lisbon). Since September 2005 is member of the Executive Board of the Department.

He got a B.Sc. in Informatics Engineering in 1992 and a Ph.D. in Computer Science in 1996 by Universidade Nova de Lisboa. From 1996 till 2001 he was Assistant Professor in Universidade Aberta, and from 2001 till 2007 an Assistant Professor at FCT/UNL.

His main research interests are within the area of Artificial Intelligence, more specifically on Logic Programming, Non-Monotonic Reasoning, Knowledge Representation, Model Based Diagnosis, and Uncertainty. Current research topics include Rule Markup languages for the Semantic Web, semantics of rule languages for the Semantic Web, and many-valued logic programming languages for dealing with imprecise knowledge. Some of these topics have been developed in the REWERSE Network of Excellence, where he belonged to the editorial board. He was local chair of the Reasoning Web Summer School 2006, which took place at Lisbon. He participated in more than a dozen of research project, and published more than 50 papers in journals and conferences.
